Getting ready for a ghoulishly good feast!  Made Witch's Fingers yesterday... will be serving them in Matthew's Monster Mash ceramic cup and bowl he painted several years ago @ Bayview Resort.

BOO!

Aren't they BOO-tiful!?  Love these spooky little ghost brownies!  I cannot take credit; I first saw them here and knew I had to make them!  I made the brownie base yesterday, and assembled the marshmallow and icing ghost in the evening.  BOO!

It's been a whole year :(

She has been gone a year tonight.  One year ago I rushed her to the emergency veterinary clinic but it was too late.  Her battle with diabetes among other unknowns (kidney, liver disorders) was just too much.  In the weeks preceeding her seizure, I knew I was losing her.  Her spirit was gone, she didn't jump up on my chair to cuddle.  I didn't know our time was to come to an end, but when it did, I knew.  I knew it was time to let her go.

I held her and told her I loved her.  I held her as she slipped away.  I still have her ashes.  She was an indoor kitty, and so she shall remain.

I still miss her.  So much!  I miss her little "brrrrrup!" noises, her contented grunts, her purrs in my ear.  I miss her soft fur and the funny, scrunched up face she made when I tickled her chin.  I miss how she persistently demanded treats._mg_1424_copy   I miss her gentle spirit and kind face.  I miss her rough kisses and wiffing in my ear.  I miss her early morning yowls.

I miss her wise and calm influence.  She knew what was important; a good meal, a bed to call your own and someone special to cuddle with.

I miss you little one.  Very much.

To infinity and beyond!

Some Moms get breakfast in bed and little notes, but I get finger drawn love notes left on the steamy bathroom mirror!  I just love this picture.  First, the message is *SO* like Matthew.  Once he was pretty confident with his times tables, he would quiz us back.  He would throw out multiplication equations all the time; in the grocery line, during dinner, bathtime, stopped at a red light... For some reason 5x5 is his favourite and most often used.  The concept of infinity intrigues him as he attempts to wrap his brain around the mind-blowing idea of it all.  I guess I will be loved forever 25 times over...  How lucky can a Mom get?

Where's the snow, Dude?

We’ve got Shaun White, snowboarder extraordinaire, in the tank!  Yes, another betta came home with the biocube filter.  Funny how that happens.  We went to the LFS to get a new filter and found the bettas.  Since we just have the community tank running, this guy *HAD* to be laid back.  So we found the VTs and looked for the most “don’t worry, be happy” betta we could find.  This little guy was swimming around but didn’t jump or flare when we moved his neighbour close.  We put him back, looked at others but kinda liked his white body and red hair.  Two name possibilities arose:

- Stephen Harper, the current Prime Minister of Canada (since the fish was *obviously* Canadian with his colours, eh!)

- Shaun White, the

U.S.

snowboarding champion, AKA the Flying Tomato because of his flaming red hair.

I sighed.  Said a fishie prayer.  And said ok.  So Shaun came home and was introduced to the community tank.  That was two weeks ago.  He has yet to nip a neighbour or flare at a reflection.  He is one laid-back-betta!

My son decided he was more of a Shaun because he was like, totally laid back, dude.  Totally.  Nothing flips this boy out.  He swims slowly, no zipping around, man.  That’s bad for your mind, or sumptin’.  No noshing on the neighbours.  We even have baby platies in the tank that would fit in his mouth… and they swim right next to him.  Now, I fully expected there would be some, ah, losses but so far, none.  Granted the adult Platy Brats are larger than he is.  They are… well fed.

He did colour up a bit after a few days in the tank.  His pale white body got some colour and a sheen of blue showed up in his fins.  And like most adorable redheads, he has very cute freckles!  (“D’oh!” says my son “Stephen Harper IS a conservative, Mom!  They’re blue, too.  You didn’t expect him to wear bleeding liberal red ties forever, did you?”)  Oh ya…but we named him after a snowboarding dude, not an uptight politician.

The name Shaun stuck (with a few nicknames)… this fish embodies the laid back Californian.  He loves to ride the filter flow down, the bubbles up and chill out on the java moss deck to catch some rays.  Dude.

And he has little white socks!
